Keeping Proportional Controls Functional – Options and Things to Consider

This course is intended for Licensed/Certified Medical Professionals (i.e. PT, OT, Physician, Nurse) and Rehab Professional (ATP,
SMS, CRTS). Power wheelchair drive controls are constantly evolving with the advancement of technology. There is a wide range of proportional controls that can truly enhance the consumers independent mobility in order to achieve their ADL’s.
This class will provide evaluating clinicians and other seating/mobility professionals with the knowledge of the various proportional drive control options, what these options require to utilize them and how they can be modified to meet the everyday needs of the consumer. After all it is all about allowing our consumers to become independent with their everyday activities.

This course is intended for Licensed/Certified Medical Professionals (i.e. PT, OT, Physician, Nurse), Rehab Professionals (ATP, SMS, CRTS) and Reimbursement & Billing Specialists.
This course will help clinicians and supplier ATPs understand the nuances of how power wheelchairs work in order to justify the base recommended for their client. We will review the minimum performance characteristics of each power wheelchair group; consider single vs. multiple power capabilities and limitations; emphasize what a non-expandable and an expandable electronics system is and does, and examine the need to operate power seat functions and their operation through the drive input device.
How Do You Gauge a Client’s Readiness for Independent Safe Use of a Power Wheelchair with Alternative Drive Controls? (1.5hrs)

This course is intended for Licensed/Certified Medical Professionals (i.e. PT, OT, Physician, Nurse) and Rehab Professionals (ATP, SMS, CRTS). Many of our most physically involved power wheelchair users require the use of an alternative drive control system to achieve independence in mobility, yet there is not a nationally recognized readiness tool to ensure that the end-user will have success with a specialty drive controls. Learning a new system can be a challenge no matter what context you apply.
This course will assist the CRT multidisciplinary with a variety of training methods that can be used to ensure that a client will be safe and functional in the use
of the recommended PWC with alternative drive controls prior to the final recommendation/submission for coverage to insurance.
