Summary:

The Purchasing Manager is responsible for ensuring wheelchairs and associated parts are ordered in a timely and accurate manner. As a dealer for various brands of wheelchairs, our model uses a “build to order” approach, which means we order product only after the exact specifications for each patient have been determined. The Purchasing Manager works closely with the Sales, Service, and Operations organizations to ensure proper communication and planning of wheelchair and component supply and ensure products are ordered precisely as required. The Purchasing Manager is also responsible for communicating order status to the appropriate stakeholders adhering to company reporting policies.


While this role will initially operate as an individual contributor, the successful candidate has the opportunity of advancing quickly to supervise other purchasing staff and functions including receiving, inventory management, and vendor management. In addition to having experience in purchasing, the ideal candidate will have a general understanding of operations, supply chain, inventory management, Lean methods (such as Kan Ban, Continuous Improvement, etc.), as well as experience supervising others.


This role is a hybrid of on site at our facility. The successful individual will need to plan on attending meetings, participating in Operations-related projects (such as Kaizen events, consigned inventory management, inventory audits, etc.) approximately 2 to 3 days per week at our facility.

Main responsibilities:

  • Preparing purchase orders using our ERP system and sending to vendors using the specific order process required by each supplier

  • Preparing appropriate order documents, quotes, etc., and manage through workflow software

  • Expediting purchase orders

  • Overseeing Warranty returns, damaged freight

  • Verifying order confirmations handling all discrepancies with the vendor and/or salesperson

  • Tracking ETA’s and follow up on backordered items

  • Developing and building relationship with vendors to facilitate transparent communication

  • Maintaining supplier profile data and compiling monthly performance metrics for key vendors

  • Participating in quarterly vendor performance reviews and communicating corrective actions when required

  • Developing, implementing, and maintaining purchasing policies, procedures, and work instructions for purchasing

  • Understanding of, or management of the Receiving process, Kan Ban, and kitting process to support Key Receiving functions. Act as back up if required.

  • Participating in the inventory management functions

Requirements and qualifications:

• Post-secondary diploma and/or degree
• Minimum 3years’ working experience in a manufacturing or distribution environment
• Experience with ERP systems
• Knowledge of Microsoft Office 365 applications including Microsoft Excel, Outlook, Word, etc.
• Durable Medical Equipment industry experience an asset
• Must be able to lift 45 lbs.
